In July, Crown Court Church of Scotland launched a fundraising campaign for its upcoming renewal project, A Kirk for Tomorrow. After morning worship, members of the congregation gathered in the church hall, and Mary-Jannet Leith and Ross Duguid, members of the Futures Committee, gave a short presentation about the project, followed by a Q & A and a community picnic lunch!
Over the past three years, the church community at Crown Court has carefully considered how they might better use their beautiful, historic church building to serve the community beyond their doors. As part of this process, congregation members have offered a range of ideas, contributing to a new vision for the church’s future. With renewed facilities, they will be able to offer their spaces to partner charities to help those in need, and to contribute to the alleviation of human need and suffering in Covent Garden and beyond. The hope is that Crown Court Church will become a well-known and affordable venue in an area where community space is scarce and often prohibitively expensive – thereby supporting their own long-term financial sustainability.
The £2.1 million project, as developed over the past two years with conservation specialists Roger Mears Architects, addresses the critical challenges faced: first, the failure of the lift beyond repair, and consequent loss of accessibility, and second, the urgent relocation of the kitchen facilities from their current location in the sub-basement. The project also provides for the much-needed refurbishment of the church hall, restores the exterior of the church building, and implements recommendations of a recent Energy Survey.
You can find out more about the project on the Kirk for Tomorrow webpage, where you can keep up to date with progress and download the fundraising brochure. The brochure sets out the vision for the church, explains how the upcoming works will safeguard worship and community use, and summarises the project plan itself.
Our overall fundraising need is £500,000, with a community campaign target of £200,000. They warmly invite all those who are members or friends of Crown Court Church to support the project in the form of pledges so that they can proceed with the necessary funding assured. Please do share the campaign with anyone you think may be interested, and be assured that the Crown Court community will be most grateful for any support you may be able to give.
